The Best Halloween Events in Bury St Edmunds 2026

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. That means proper nights out, later finishes, and no school-run guilt the next morning.

There are plenty of Halloween events in Bury St Edmunds, all within a short 25-min drive this October. Some of it is new for 2026, including a witch trials exhibition at Moyse’s Hall and an evening scare event at West Stow. We’ve pulled together the ones worth booking, with dates and prices checked in September. Start with ours.

Feature Event Spotlight: Planet Laser’s Own Fright Night: The Halloween Spooktacular

Our thrilling Halloween Spooktacular is back on Saturday 31st October, 7 pm to 10 pm, on Halloween itself. We deck the whole 6,000-square-foot laser tag arena out, turn the music up, and run three hours of laser tag with live scare actors loose in the arena. You play while they test your nerve as much as your aiming skills.

Fancy dress is encouraged. Prizes for the best costumes, so it’s worth putting some effort in.

Two ticket options:

  • £22 per person with food: scaredogs (hotdogs, but scarier), chips and two drinks. The drinks list includes themed cocktails and mocktails alongside the usual soft and hot drinks.
  • £18 per person without food.

We cap the night at two groups, so the arena never gets crowded. Last year’s Halloween event sold out, and this one promises to be even better. This one is Halloween night, so book early to make sure you secure your place.

Key Details:

  • Dates: October 31st, 7 pm – 10 pm
  • Location: Planet Laser, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3SP
  • Booking: Don’t delay! Costumes are strongly encouraged, and limited slots sell out fast.

  • The Experience: Traverse dark woods, terrifying buildings, and open fields, all stalked by ghouls, ghosts, and creative, live-action scares. Reality and imagination blur into a true test of nerve.
  • Perfect for: Groups of brave friends. It is a dedicated scare attraction and one of the most intense Halloween events available in the region.
  • Dates: 15–31 October 2026, 6 pm–11 pm, selected nights. Check the calendar when you book.
  • Age Restriction: Strictly for older teens and adults (Ages 14+ or 18+ depending on the night).

2. The Ghostly and Macabre Guided Walk

(Bury St Edmunds Town Centre)

A 90-minute night walk with the Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides, starting at Moyse’s Hall and ending in the Great Churchyard after dark. Murders, riots, plague, witchcraft, a screaming skull and a mummified cat. The guides know their history, and it shows.

  • The Experience: Join a guided night tour through the darkened streets, concluding in the deserted Great Churchyard. Your guide will chill you with tales of foul murders, witchcraft, screaming skulls, and ghostly apparitions that haunt the historic town.
  • Perfect for: History buffs and those looking for a cultural, yet genuinely spooky, Halloween activity for adults.
  • Dates: The tours launch on Halloween (Saturday, 31st October 2025) and continue on Friday evenings through until the end of March.
  • Booking: £10 per ticket. Tickets are in high demand. Book your spot in advance to avoid missing out on this popular local event.

3. Ghost Tours at the Theatre Royal

(The Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds)

The Theatre Royal is one of the oldest working playhouses in Britain, and its staff have stories. On 28 and 29 October they run torchlit tours behind the scenes, covering the sightings and superstitions the building has collected over two centuries.

If witches are more your thing, author Philippa Gregory is at the theatre on Sunday 18 October talking about Royal Witch, her novel about the only royal ever convicted of witchcraft in England.

Family Halloween Events and Gruesome Daytime Discoveries

Looking for a thrill that won’t give the little monsters nightmares? Bury St Edmunds has fantastic daytime options to celebrate the spooky season.

Shadows of the Past at West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village (new for 2026)

(12-15min drive from Bury St Edmunds)

The experience: a 90-minute walk around the torchlit village on 30 and 31 October, meeting the “Ancient Ones” and completing challenges to earn your way back to the modern age. Timed entry every 10 minutes between 6 pm and 8 pm.

Tickets: £13.31. The odd price is deliberate: 13:31 is the “mirror hour” associated with fears and turning points. Book at weststow.org.

The witch trials exhibition at Moyse’s Hall

(Bury St Edmunds)

Bury St Edmunds held one of the largest witch trials in England, and those trials were cited at Salem ten years later. Moyse’s Hall opens a new exhibition on Halloween covering the victims’ stories, why the trials happened, and what people believed witches actually did. The 1682 “Tryal of Witches” booklet is on display, along with a permanent record of the victims’ names.

The museum’s regular collection is worth the visit on its own if you’ve not been: the Red Barn Murder display, a gibbet cage you can stand in, and plenty else your kids will describe as “gross” and then refuse to leave. A sci-fi exhibition with props from spooky films opens the same day.
